Thousands of coaches and athletes are participating at an FCA Camp around the country and world this summer. Here are a few reflections from the hearts and minds of faces seen around camp.
Name: Tammy
Sport: Surf
Position: Volunteer
Camp Experience: 8 years
FCA: Why do you keep coming to camp?
Tammy: This is our vacation. I move everything I can around to get here. It’s so wonderful to be surrounded by Christians. My husband and I do a surf ministry in Santa Barbara, and to be a part of loving on the kids just because—we’re so blessed.
FCA: What’s rewarding for you?
Tammy: Observing kids who have never had the opportunity to surf get in the water. There are kids with some hard lives, and I love walking with them and just asking how their day is going and really listening. I’m blessed by their stories.
FCA: How do you see God showing up?
Tammy: On the first day, the kids have guards on their hearts. They walk into the atmosphere where there is no judging and you see their shoulders down, relaxing. God’s just so sweet. He comes subtly; He comes how the kids need Him to. He gets that.
FCA: What’s one thing you hope they learn this week?
Tammy: They don’t have to be a perfect Christian to be a Christian. We’re blessed to be a part of this and do it because we choose to be here.
