On how he tries to emulate Christ... "First and foremost, through what I hope is a consistent and faithful walk with our Lord. I have always believed that our lives should be our sermon, and that the best messages are lived and not always spoken. Therefore, I try to model my love and commitment to Jesus Christ.
"While I am always willing to share my faith if asked, I do try to never force my faith on anyone or to make another feel defensive or uncomfortable in a negative way. Simply put, I strive to be consistent and model Christ-like attitudes and behaviors daily. My goal is for others to see and feel a source of joy and peace from me that is not from me or anything that the world can offer."
On the example he tries to set for his players... "I try to convey a spirit of competitive excellence. If we are doing something, it is my belief that we should give our absolute best in the pursuit of excellence. Whatever we are doing, especially if God has called us to it, we should do with a total release of all our energy and ability.
"My on-court demeanor is one of tremendous passion and energy, of great enthusiasm for the game and for the opportunity to compete. I feel incredibly thankful for the opportunity to coach, teach and be a part of the various teams I have been on or will be on in the future. My 'attitude of gratitude' means that every day I coach I want to give back -- to God, to the game, and to the people with whom I’ve been placed."
On Scripture that has helped him in his basketball life... "My personal favorite is from Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) – 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.'
"To me, this just says it all; we are to fully trust God and trust His plan. Our own understanding is so small and feeble compared to His, so trusting Him just makes sense. As He has proven time and again with our ancestors and forefathers, He will make our paths straight. These verses convey a time-tested truth and something that I have always firmly and deeply believed."
