Angie Bjorklund  University of Tennessee

Angie Bjorklund - #5

College: University of Tennessee
Year: Sophomore
Height: 6-0
Position: Guard/Forward
Hometown: Spokane Valley, Wash.

Trivia: Bjorklund was named SEC Newcomer of the Year last season after averaging 8.4 points and 3.4 rebounds for the national-champion Lady Vols.

On handling pressure...
"Playing Division I basketball at Tennessee comes with a lot of pressure. My freshman year, and even at times now, I let that pressure get to me, but in the end it just made me turn to God, give Him all the pressure and trust and have faith He would take them. Plus, at first I was playing for all the wrong reasons, and when I finally truly started to play for the Lord, I felt free on the court and it enabled me to enjoy the game a whole lot more."

On using her current position to glorify Christ...
"One of the main reasons I chose to play for Tennessee was to have a platform to reach out to others for Christ. Every opportunity I have to shine the glory and give all the credit to God for how I play, I try to. I pray more and more for God to use the platform He has given me to reach others and bless others, and I know more doors will open while I’m here."

On how her faith affects her life and basketball...
"My faith plays an enormous role in my life and even in sports. I would be absolutely nothing without God in my life. He gives my life meaning and purpose, and the closer and closer I get to Him, the more He changes my heart and gives me an eternal perspective on things. When I put God first and as my solid foundation, everything else just seems to fall into place, including basketball.

"Yes, I love the sport and am a very competitive player, but basketball is not the focus of my life. It’s not about winning or losing, but glorifying God every chance I get both on and off the court. Basketball has been an absolute blessing and I am thankful I can wake up every day and play the sport I love. God has gifted me with a talent, and it's my gift back to Him to use that talent to its fullest potential."

On a Scripture that influences her with basketball...
"On every autograph I write Colossians 3:23: 'Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.'

"I try to make this Scripture my focal point and as a reminder of Who I'm playing for each and every day. Plus, if people know I'm working for the Lord, I want to be the hardest-working player on the court, and I want to have an attitude that reflects God and glorifies Him."
