Andrew Sorenson  Gonzaga

Andrew Sorenson - #11

College: Gonzaga University

Height/Weight: 6-2/172
Position: Guard

On what Scripture has helped him in his basketball life...
"Matthew 20:6 – 'With God all things are possible.'

"This Scripture makes me believe that anything is possible. For me, I was never a ridiculous athlete or the tallest or could never jump the highest, [but] I believed I had the biggest heart. Knowing that God was right there with me gave me the confidence and courage to try to not fear failure.

"It also gave me the strength to never quit, no matter how many times I had failed. This Scripture makes me believe that if you want something bad enough, you go as hard as you can to get it, and if you believe it's possible, God will make it possible. I dreamt since I was a kid to play Division-I basketball for a great team. I did everything I could, God was my strength and He helped me truly believe in myself that I could do it. He made my dreams come true."

On how he's learned to serve God as a role player...
"There are good days and bad days, but I serve my team knowing that what I do every day in practice, the energy I bring to the games and the friendships I have with my teammates will translate into greater success for us as a team. I have been ready since day one to step onto the court and play whenever the coach calls, but until that I will be the best teammate I can be.

"I consider practice my 'game days,' and me working as hard as I can, day in and day out, will make my teammates better. I also realize that wherever I am, with the team on the road, or on campus, or around in the community, as a ball player everyone is watching what I do with a close eye. Knowing that my actions have more repercussions than just to myself, I live my life not looking over my shoulder, but in the best way to serve God. I hope that in whatever I do people can see the life of God flowing out of me."

On what role his faith plays in life and in sports...
"Faith gives me life; it keeps me going every day, good and bad. When I am having a bad day or something isn’t going the way I wish, I turn to my faith and it gives me the strength to stick with it. When I am having a good day I know that this is the result of my faith and relationship with God. Everything I do, I hope people can see the power of God and his joy of life through me. He has given me determination, character, will, life and the power of love."
