Red Door Award

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) relies on the faithful service of local coaches, athletes and volunteers helping us fulfill our mission. Their dedication, fueled through the FCA Values of Integrity, Serving, Teamwork and Excellence, helps our ministry to grow deeper and wider.

A highlight of each spring and fall FCA Board of Trustees meeting is the presentation of the Red Door Award. Recipients have exhibited long-standing, deep dedication and extraordinary commitment to the FCA sports ministry and their community.

And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.
- Romans 10:15

The award image reflects the story of the award’s first recipients, Coach Keith Allen and his wife, Marlys. For 42 years, the Allens opened their home every Wednesday to welcome the FCA Huddle. Dozens of shoes were deposited at their red front door as the high school athletes sang, prayed, shared life experiences and learned about God and His Word. When the Allens moved from the U.S., they took their FCA Huddle ministry to their new home in Canada. They exemplified volunteers opening their homes, hands and hearts in service to FCA.

Many male and female student-athletes became Christ followers in those meetings. Others learned to grow deeper in their already-established relationships with Jesus. Some became teachers and coaches and started Huddles in their homes. Others took the Gospel to the world. What an example of FCA’s multiplication discipleship ministry! Though shoe styles and Huddle locations have changed over the years, local coaches, athletes and other volunteers still serve with dedication and commitment to make more disciples—wherever God places them. And God’s Kingdom continues to grow.

“It has been a true pleasure to work with local FCA staff around the country to honor individuals who exhibit the FCA Values of Integrity, Serving, Teamwork and Excellence. During these special meeting times for our leadership, it is a privilege to serve alongside these coaches, athletes and volunteers as they carry out the vision of FCA—to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.”
— Shane Williamson, FCA President and CEO.
