Thousands of coaches and athletes are participating at an FCA Camp around the country and world this summer. Here are a few reflections from the hearts and minds of faces seen around camp.
Ashley, Tiff (Huddle Leader) and Tess
Soccer
Name: Ashley
School: Santa Ana High School
Year: Sophomore
FCA: What’s been the coolest part of the week?
Ashley: The Huddle Leaders—they don’t know you but they love on you. It’s crazy, but people are loving you without knowing you.
FCA: Are there any themes that stick out to you?
Ashley: The talks about God. I knew talk of God but didn’t know how personal it could be with Him. I’m really glad I came.
***
Name: Tiff
School: Westmont College (just graduated)
Camp Experience: 1 year
FCA: What were your expectations coming into camp?
Tiff: I didn’t really know I was actually coming to camp! I was going to start work on Monday, but that didn’t happen and then Kristin (Stockfisch) called me Monday about being a Huddle leader and I came up that evening. It was really last minute.
FCA: What’s stood out to you?
Tiff: How raw and real people are. It’s not what I expected when I became a Christian. When you feel free to be yourself, you give others freedom to be themselves.
FCA: What are you seeing in your Huddle?
Tiff: Walls are starting to break down. Sitting down at lunch, I just watch the girls talking and laughing and being comfortable together. Praise God for the foundation of the group and brings everyone together!
***
Name: Tess
School: Lompoc High School
Year: Sophomore
Camp Experience: 1 year
FCA: What’s the experience been like so far?
Tess: I’ve met good friends right away. And worship always stands out. When they play a song I know I can raise my hands and close my eyes and praise God.
FCA: What are you looking forward to?
Tess: Talking more with my Huddle and getting to know my people. We go from talking about something that makes us cry, then the next day we’ll be laughing.
***
Name: Matthew
School: Oakdale High School
Sport: Football (defensive line)
Year: Sophomore
FCA: What are your overall thoughts on camp?
Matthew: I wasn’t sure what to think at first—coming in, I’ve never been to camp. I was shocked and amazed with the player connections. It was like family on night one.
FCA: Are you surprised by your growth?
Matthew: I’m learning from the coaches a lot because they really understand what’s going on in our lives.
FCA: What are you going to apply back home?
Matthew: Be humble and know there’s great competition out there, but also look to working as a team. I’m very happy I came.
