Born and raised in southern Indiana, Logan Ball has played the sport he’s loved since childhood in his backyard. The University of Southern Indiana Eagle finished his soccer career in 2015, and but is committed to serving around his community and through his FCA Huddle, which he helped start from scratch, and longs to see more athletes around campus come to know Christ.

logan_ball-9100FCA: Why did you start FCA at Southern Indiana?

LB: When I arrived on campus there was talk about setting up an FCA Huddle. About a year and a half later, we started as College Christian Athletes. We took the FCA theme and ran with it for a few semesters. Then we were approached by [FCA representative] Craig Grow, who did a great job helping us be recognized as an official FCA club on campus.

That’s been a blessing and great experience for me, because we were able to get the very first FCA in USI history. It was pretty cool to be a part of that, to be in the whole beginning process and see how it has grown since then. It’s something I’ll cherish forever.

FCA: How have you been challenged as a student-athlete?

LB: I’ve been to church my entire life, but coming into college was a bit of a transition because you’re given a lot more freedom. Being able to be on my own and not have to rely on my parents as much has helped grow my faith. All college students are faced with multiple amounts of temptations, and being a student-athlete you can say you don’t have time to do my homework, or push things aside. Having to hold studies and being scared of what the future might hold and all the challenges we face as athletes has helped me grow in my faith. It has allowed me to turn to God in times of trouble.

FCA: Where have you seen your faith strengthened?

LB: It’s important to have a group of people who are held accountable to keep each other in check, people you can talk to in times of trouble and ask advice. That’s what I enjoy about FCA.

Craig has challenged me to set aside personal time with God every day. I’m currently trying to read the entire Bible in a year. I’ve been able to keep up with that, and it’s allowed me to grow in my faith and to discover who Jesus is by meeting with Him, reflection time and thanking Him for all the blessings and safety He provides.

FCA: What would you like for yourself spiritually in the future?

LB: I’d like to grow more and use my talents and gifts to glorify the Kingdom of Heaven. As student-athletes, we’re given such a tool to use our athletic ability that God has given us. We have 250 student-athletes on campus, so there are a lot more people who can be coming [to FCA]. I’d like to set up the future for FCA, trying to spread the word to other student-athletes who might not believe, and be involved in more community outreach.

FCA: How would you describe your journey with God?

LB: Gaining trust. I’m a person who is anxious or worried about the future. Through my experience with Christ, He’s been able to allow me to trust Him and His plan, though at times we may not be able to understand it. But it’s a perfect plan. I think everything happens for a reason, and I am able to trust Him with my life and the future.

FCA Staff Quote:

“Logan is ALL IN as a Christian first and foremost in all that he does. Logan and his friend Caleb were instrumental in establishing the Huddle at USI. He published an FCA newsletter, keeping the campus aware of what God was doing in their Huddle. He was also a speaker at two community events representing his FCA Huddle.”
