As we seek to make disciples who make disciples, we engage, equip and empower coaches and athletes to know and grow in Christ and lead others to do the same. We do this through many different ways and environments.
We identify spaces and places to cultivate relationships— individually or in groups—and we use Christ-centered Huddles, events, training and resources.
WHAT’S A “HUDDLE?”
Huddles are certified small group Bible studies/devotions for coaches and athletes organized by FCA. We host them at various locations on and off campus—wherever coaches and athletes choose to gather.
WHEN DID HUDDLES START?
The FCA Huddle program officially began in 1966. It was designed to bring the “mountaintop experience” of FCA Camp to the campus. “Small groups” took place at the first FCA Camp at Estes Park in 1956. FCA began using the term “Huddle” in the inaugural issue of The Christian Athlete in 1959. The publication featured a Bible study called “The Huddle” in response to requests from small groups forming on campuses that wanted Bible studies from FCA. It didn’t take long for the term “Huddle” to catch on and describe the small groups themselves.
“Huddles” are now an integral part of FCA’s ministry all over the world.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF HUDDLES?
COACHES HUDDLE: A small-group Bible study for coaches (of all levels of sport) on campuses and in club/travel sports. The Huddle can consist of a coaching staff, or it can be made up of coaches from various teams.
TEAM HUDDLE: A Bible study within an individual team setting or environment that encourages and challenges team members to live and compete according to biblical principles.
MULTI-SPORT HUDDLE: A small-group Bible study for athletes from multiple sports teams within a campus or community setting.
