It’s FCA’s oldest, longest-running Camp that has put the Word of God into the hands of thousands of campers since 1964. What began as a small sports camp for boys has grown into a robust ministry in the Carolinas for male and female coaches and athletes with significant historical ties.
YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly
Dr. Billy Graham, who lived in Montreat, North Carolina, suggested the Camp be hosted in his neighboring city of Black Mountain. YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly became the first and only site of the Camp. Dr. Graham spoke at the 1965 Camp and used a baseball analogy to invite campers to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. He spoke at many Black Mountain FCA Camps, and several of his family members met their spouses there and continue to serve.

A Place of Significance
Black Mountain FCA Camps have shared Christ with thousands of coaches and athletes, several who’ve gone on to experience great success. Camp alumni include professional football players Shaun Alexander, Reggie White, Hunter Renfrow, Danny Wuerffel and Chris “Shep” Shepherd. FCA President Shane Williamson and FCA Board of Trustees member Buck McCabe are also past attendees. Other notable alumni who’ve attended, coached or performed include coaches Tony Dungy and Bobby Bowden, University of Tennessee Athletics Director Emeritus Joan Cronan, pro tennis player Wendy White Prausa, Christian recording artist Karyn Williams and pro basketball handlers Tanya Crevier and Robyn Slain.
Multi-Generational Impact
Boys Camp began in 1964, followed by Coaches Family Camp in 1976. Girls Camp started in 1979, Leadership Camps in 2016, and since then, several group retreats have begun. Today hundreds of coaches, athletes and coaches’ families attend Camp each summer. Scholarship funds donated by generous FCA supporters, many who’ve experienced Black Mountain Camp firsthand, ensure that campers can continue attending. For 55 years, coaches and athletes have come to Black Mountain Camps to improve athletically, connect relationally and be transformed spiritually— some say it’s one step below Heaven.
