Title: Utah FCA State Director
Joined FCA: Aug. 1, 2012
Campuses Covered:
•University of Utah
•Utah State University
•Weber State University
Sports Background: I played baseball at Cochise (Ariz.) College for two years and then at Arizona State University. The Texas Rangers drafted me as a pitcher in 1988, but my career ended in 1989 due to a shoulder injury. I then coached high school baseball for two years in Albuquerque, N.M., and for three years in Ogden, Utah.
Ministry Background: When my baseball career ended, I worked in the construction equipment industry for 16 years until a campus pastor position opened at my church and I felt God calling me to it. He opened that door, and after six years He opened another door to FCA. Looking back, my baseball in-jury was truly a blessing because that god in my life was removed, and replaced with Christ. I didn’t know Christ as a player, and that’s something that motivates me as I reach out to coaches and athletes.
Best thing about my role with FCA: Launching and growing FCA in Utah to help coaches and athletes pursue God.
Most challenging part of my job: Creating awareness for FCA in Utah, a state that has not had much exposure to the ministry.
What i love about FCA: I love having the opportunity to use the platform of sports to share Christ with others.
3 Prayer Requests:
1. For wisdom and vision to lead FCA Utah.
2. For our leadership teams and future Utah FCA Staff.
3. To reach and grow coaches and athletes for Christ in Utah.
Staff quote: “The Lord has shown us tremendous favor in Utah and has brought together people who are pas-sionate about seeing the vision of FCA become a reality. Bill Schorr was one of those founding task force members who felt God prompting his heart towards coming on staff with FCA. With his sports background and pastor’s heart, Bill is exactly who we need to begin cultivating relationships in Utah. We are very thankful for his leadership and for what God is doing in the state of Utah.” — Field VP Mike Sanfratello
