To encourage players and coaches while providing a holiday meal that many might not otherwise experience, South Metro Atlanta FCA and volunteers served the Jonesboro High School football team a Thanksgiving meal before last week’s state quarterfinal game.
Thirty FCA volunteers and character coaches from seven schools around the area served dinner, loved on the team, and made sure every player knew he was appreciated.

FCA South Metro Atlanta Area Director Mike Roby arranged speakers, which included coaches from rival teams and alumni from the historic school celebrating its first region title in 66 years. The evening reached peak level when players and coaches realized they were being supported by some of their rivals.
“I think that kind of blew them away that three coaches from surrounding schools would come in, not only serve dinner, but speak life into them,” Roby said.
The night ended with small group prayer led by volunteers from the community.
Roby added, “I think that’s why so many have wanted to come and serve, because they’ve been able to see how God is using this school and this program for His glory.”
