FCA Korea hosted an overnight coaches’ marriage retreat for local athletic leaders and their spouses as Covid-19 social distancing restrictions within the country lifted.

With all games and seasons this spring either canceled or postponed, coaches were struggling to navigate the unexpected and tough times with their athletes. Recognizing that coaches hold key positions when it comes to making ministry impact, FCA Korea arranged the retreat as a time of renewal. It was a strategic step designed to unite spouses’ hearts and minds around the same vision and mission. 

Twenty-two people attended the retreat including coaches, their spouses and FCA staff. It was a blessed time of faith, fun and fellowship where many coaches revealed they simply haven’t had enough time or opportunity to get away with their spouses for a much-needed break.

The coaches’ marriage retreat included a time of sports and physical activity, a backyard barbeque, a coaches’ Huddle and a campfire and worship time. Throughout the retreat, FCA staff and coaches dug deeper into the FCA strategy of “To and Through the Coach,” and they discussed how to accomplish the vision of reaching God’s kingdom together.

Some of the most meaningful moments of the retreat took place when FCA staff freely interacted with each coach and spouse to build relationships during the campfire and cookout. Coaches and spouses also shared impactful moments of their testimony, struggles and passion.

Everyone arrived as individuals but left as family.

“This retreat had a huge impact, we have gained momentum to keep going and we are excited to see what the Lord has in store,” said FCA Korea Director Paul Lee.

With the successful coaches’ marriage retreat in the books, FCA Korea plans to continue the momentum by expanding the ministry more powerfully and widely to and through the coach.

“I haven’t really had this kind of time with my husband where he took me to his work environment. My husband and I are so happy and blessed that we now get to have our hearts more united around the same vision and our eyes toward the same direction. For that we are very grateful,” shared by a coach's wife.
