Area Representative Daniel Lee serves in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is focused on All Ability Sport ministry. He wants to bring greater inclusion of People With Disabilities into sports ministry, which includes coaches and athletes who are involved in Paralympic, adaptive and disability sports.
After being involved in a global sport ministry network made up of people from all around the world, Lee met the team at FCA, one of the global organization’s partners, and began forming relationships. He was encouraged by what FCA was doing both around the world and in Malaysia. The FCA leaders recognized Lee’s calling and passion for ministry. Shortly after participating in FCA’s All Ability Ministry Forum in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2019, Lee joined the team. Said Lee, “I joined FCA because I believe God has a plan to use what I do in the world of sports to impact the world for Jesus.”
Lee has Type 1 Osteogenesis Imperfecta (also known as brittle-bones disease). As a youth, he dreamed of playing sports, but it was too risky. After college, some people in his church gifted him with a sports wheelchair, and that changed everything. Given the ability and tools to push beyond his limits, he signed up for a men’s marathon and experienced the joy of competing. Today, Lee is an athlete pursuing big goals.
Lee believes God has placed him where he is for a purpose, ministering to coaches and athletes. Due to COVID-19, progress toward qualifying for the Tokyo Games got put on hold, but the Lord is using Lee’s experiences as an athlete and motivational speaker for the work He has called him to now. In his role, he connects with coaches and athletes, and by God’s grace, shows them that it’s possible to see the world transformed by Jesus through the influence they carry.
“I believe God has placed in me a vision and dream to be the first Malaysian wheelchair racer to compete in the Summer Paralympic Games one day,” Lee said. “I am working hard to achieve that dream.”
“I take one step at a time in my pursuit of Christ,” Lee remarked. “I believe finding and pursuing the purpose God has placed in each of us brings us closer to Him. None of our goals are possible without God first creating us for them. I constantly challenge myself to love others in a more Christ-like manner as Jesus has commanded. My journey in FCA is one of the steps in my pursuit of Christ. He is using me as a vessel to bring His transformation to the lives of people who so desperately need Him.”
