FCA is honored to announce Boise State University’s
head football coach, Spencer Danielson, as the recipient of the
2025 Grant Teaff Coach of the Year Award.
Named after Grant Teaff, former Baylor University
coach and Trustee Emeritus of the FCA Board of Trustees, the
Coach of the Year Award presented by FCA recognizes a Division
1 football coach who exemplifies Christian principles and who is involved in FCA.
The award is also based on the success and performance of the coach’s team that
season.
FCA
Idaho State Director, Ken Lewis said, “Spencer is bold in his faith in Jesus
Christ. He walks his talk and follows through on his commitments. He builds
incredible relationships with his players and people in our community.
“He
proclaims Christ whenever he gets the opportunity in the community and in his
role as Head Coach at Boise State University. His attitude and actions behind
the scenes with his team, family and coaches are consistent with what you see
in the outward, public life that the community sees.”
As a coach, Spencer coaches to the heart of his
athletes: “the heart behind their jerseys!” He speaks words of life to his
players. He is a great encourager and listener and is patient with his players.
He protects the sabbath as much as possible for his staff and players. Almost
every time he is in front of the media, he promotes Jesus and Jesus’ role in
his life & the effort of his team — giving Jesus the glory.
Tyler Crowe, a fullback for Boise State University football
said, “In an era where college athletics often prioritizes personal gain and
fleeting successes, Coach D stands as a beacon of selflessness
and integrity. His approach to coaching goes far beyond the X’s and O’s; he
genuinely treats every player as if we were his own sons. This is not just an
abstract sentiment — his actions consistently demonstrate this care. Whether
it’s mentoring us through challenges on and off the field, ensuring our
academic and personal growth, or simply being present when we need him most, Coach
D is a constant source of encouragement and stability.”
Another Boise State University football player said, “In his
first season as the full-time head coach of the Boise State Broncos, Spencer
Danielson has built a program on the pillars of love and sacrifice. He
lives out his Christian faith every day and takes many moments, publicly and
privately, to praise Jesus Christ. He strongly believes that he was called by
God to develop champions and is doing so at Boise State, both on and off the
field.
“There is perhaps no better example of Spencer’s
faith and authenticity than what he told FOX reporter Allison Williams in the
moments after leading Boise State to the Mountain West Championship. ‘Thank
you, Jesus. Jesus deserves all the glory. We serve a champion,’ he said. ‘He
died on the cross but He rose again three days later. That’s the God I serve.
Anything is possible!’”
Spencer began his involvement
with FCA in Southern California during his time at Azusa
Pacific University. Spencer says, “FCA is the
most impactful ministry on Boise State’s campus!” In 2023, he spoke at the FCA
Bowl Breakfast at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl and delivered the closing
prayer.
“I am so humbled and
honored to win the Grant Teaff Coach of the Year award. Coaching is all about
having an impact and changing people’s lives and Grant Teaff embodies that,”
said Spencer Danielson. “I believe that coaches are supposed to build young men
to be champions in life and the only way to do that is for them to have a
foundation that is not football. My foundation is my faith in Jesus and sharing
this through the vehicle of football is why I coach and a vital point of FCA.”
