FCA Magazine Writers’ Guidelines
FCA accepts freelance writer queries and photographs from freelance photographers. Please see below for our writer and photographer guidelines.
Guidelines for FCA Magazine and Photographers:
-
Purpose: FCA Magazine’s mission is to serve as a ministry tool of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes by informing, inspiring and involving coaches, athletes and all whom they influence, that they may make an impact for Jesus Christ.
-
Audience: The primary audiences of published stories in FCA Magazine are athletes and coaches of all levels and the FCA ministry staff.
-
Format: A balance of first- and third-person articles, Q/A articles and profiles and sports-related ministry articles. We feature athletes and coaches of all levels as long as they are involved in FCA. It is important to have a balance of gender and race. All profile articles must contain an authentic spiritual angle depicting the person’s struggles and successes in the real world, and must include a strong tie to the FCA ministry.
-
Approach: Query e-mails are best. FCA is a four-color publication printed six times a year on 8” x 10-3/4” glossy stock. Articles range from 1,000-2,000 words. Response to queries, manuscripts and photos depends on the timeliness of the story. Prefer to buy first rights only.
-
Photography: Articles should be accompanied by at least three quality photos—digital or hard copy. All digital photos must be at least 300dpi.
-
Payment: Upon publication. Fee depends on page count.
-
Misc. Circulation is roughly 75,000. Byline and photo credits given. Submit seasonal material three to four months in advance.
-
Tips: Profiles, interviews, arresting photos most open to freelancers. Send $2 for a sample copy, plus a 9” X 12” self-addressed envelope with three first-class stamps.
